Overview
In 2018, I was a fellow at the Robin Hood Foundation technology incubator, Blue Ridge Labs. As part of the largest foundation dedicated to fighting poverty in NYC, Blue Ridge Labs invests in technologies that are co-created within directly impacted communities, providing a unique and valuable opportunity to develop products that are directly accountable to the people they serve.

As a Blue Ridge Labs fellow...
I worked in a 4-person team to facilitate over 65 interviews with justice-involved partners and community-based organizations about workforce challenges.  These co-creation sessions surfaced a web of administrative frictions in the already onerous job search process that formerly incarcerated individuals face. In synthesizing these discussions, we were able to storytell the need for job search tool especially tailored to the unique challenges faced by those with justice-involved backgrounds.

The fellowship culminated in a demo pitch for a mobile-accessible resume builder and document storage app, Good Sheet. Using behavioral and accessible design patterns, we created an affirming intake process, suggesting relevant skills and certifications, staged progress indicators, secure document storage and job search filters that helped users hone in on jobs that met their constraints, including certification, schedule, and probation requirements.
